Atlas Season of Shred 2018 – QMTBC Fundraiser

Atlas Season of Shred fundraiser for the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club (QMTBC) went down last Saturday (December 8th) and it was a great success! The sun was out, the banter was strong, the beers were poured and the party was on.

Little shredder at the Vertigo Kids Jump Jam
Winners oft he King Salmon Race Reece Potter and Kathy Morris
The day started off with the Vertigo kids jump jam. After watching the little ones shredding the jump park, the racers from the King Salmon race entered the Wynyard Terrain Park. Quentin Kenning and Jimmy Pollard did an awesome job organising this, together with Bikeaholic. Riders made there way up to the top of the Fernhill Loop to then race down the Salmon Run. Queen of Salmon Run is Kathy Morris and King is Reece Potter. Great job guys, we hope you enjoyed your fresh salmon!

The sun was high, the atmosphere was great. For everyone to refuel themselves throughout all this action Atlas Beer CafĂ© put on a splendid spread of tacos and corn snacks while keeping the cold beers pouring from Emerson’s, Altitude Brewing and Crimson Badger.

After crowning the King and Queen of Salmon, riders began to warm up for the Vertigo Huckathon. This would not have happened without the help of Emmerson Wilken, Pete McNally, and other QMTBC members who put in the hard yards to prepare the jumps and tracks. Cheers guys!

Congrats to Billy McLean for winning best style, David Perez Nanni for best trick and Jack Humphrey for best goon. We loved watching you guys sending it!

Volunteers also showed their love and support for the club by either selling raffle tickets and merchandise, holding stop/go signs, welcoming you at the doors, setting up and packing down. Big thanks to those legends, you know who you are.

While the silent auction – with prizes like a season pass for the Skyline Gondola’19, 3 Mountain season pass from NZski, a Heli Bike, Go Orange Ultimate Experience and many more – came to an end, Bad News were rocking hard through the night with amazing tunes. As always, they did an awesome job.

During our live auction held by Cara Grimwade and Fraser Gordon, amazing items like the Giant Glory donated by Vertigo found a new home. Wesley McAllister auctioned off his ginger mane for an incredible $600!  We love to see how passionate this community is towards mountain biking! We would also like to give a huge shout out to our friends from Charge About Queenstown, who have donated the Moustache Down 5 long travel eMTB to the QTMBC!

We’d like to give a massive shout out and a big thank you to all our sponsors, volunteers, staff, riders, trail builders and to Fraser Gordon for his MC work! We could not have done this without the help of all of you! Each and every single one of you are incredible. Thank you Jake Hood and Ashton Oliver for these beautiful photos to capture this fun filled day.

Last but not least we are super proud to announce that we have raised $15,221.50 for the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club! This is incredible! This is all thanks to the 680 people that came down and celebrated with us! We love you guys.

Happy Season Of Shred 2018/2019 and safe hucking everyone! See you at Atlas for a post ride refreshment and feed.

Don’t forget to give us a follow on Instagram and Facebook for daily specials and other fun stuff!

Our talented chef has been working hard on our Winter Menu 2018. The trial period is over and the feedback we received is just mind-blowing.
Start your day right with a freakishly delicious chicken burger, also available at lunch time! For all the veggies out there, give the beetroot bubble and squeak with grilled haloumi, poached eggs and hollandaise a try.

Add a Barista made coffee and you are good to go. To make you the happy bunny that we want you to be we expanded our lactose milk options to soy, almond or coconut.

We are proud of our steak but variety is the key. What says winter more than beef stew with smoked mash and toasted ciabatta!? Or maybe your last trip to Asia is still on your mind? Come and get lost in your memories while enjoying a shredded duck open sandwich with pickled cucumber, spring onion and hoisin! If you have been  feeling like something light and refreshing then try our delightful grilled haloumi and beetroot salad with toasted walnuts and pomegranate dressing

How good is it when items are on both our lunch and dinner menu? No need to worry about time.

Try our
house made mushroom and leek sausage on smoked mash topped with onion jam and vegetarian gravy.

If this doesn’t make your mouth water maybe this tasty addition to our dinner menu will – twice cooked pork belly with ginger glaze on smoked mash with apple sauce.

All you need to warm yourself up after a good day shredding up the mountain is a little snack. We provide Japanese fried chicken, salt and pepper squid or Atlas style Poutine all day, along with an extended tapas menu at dinner time.

All winter we are doing a varying Sunday Roast every week.

Atlas End Of Season Party

Our End Of Season jam to finish out our mountain biking season for 2017 and 2018 was a massive success. Many brews were enjoyed as the banter flowed between great mates and acquaintances from the trails.

Local band 'Bad News' rocked us through the night and despite a drizzling of rain, we were all sheltered care of our mates at Farelli's Trattoria opening their doors to us for the evening and our sponsors giving us the use of their marquees for our extended license on the Atlas patio.

Huge shout out goes to the Sound People for hooking us up with the sound systems and screens in both venues to enjoy the 23RR Premiere of local legends doing what riders of all styles do best in Queenstown.

As always, we had Fraser Gordon on the mic MC'ing us through the raffle prizes where we make a huge portion of our money for QMTBC. We couldn't do it without all our volunteers, staff and sponsors and can't say thank you enough for their constant support! Zoe Dean walked away with the grand prize of a Heli Glenorchy mountain bike drop for her and 4 mates – what an epic win!

Between Atlas, our sponsors and the raffle we have raised a big $4,300
for Queenstown Mountain Bike Club and your trails. Epic job Queenstown!
Now get those night lights out for safe winter riding.
