$21,564...!!!!!!!

The team at Atlas is proud to announce we have raised a WHOPPING $21,564 for the QMTBC this year! This is a combined fund between The GB’s Club and the Atlas SOS party. We could not have done it without everyone eating and drinking at Atlas between October and November – and of course the hundreds and hundreds of people who attended, participated and purchased raffle tickets and t-shirts at the Season of Shred Party!

The GB’s Club (The Good Bastard’s Club) ran for 5 weeks in Atlas. We had a ton of sponsors donating product, which in turn allowed Atlas to save a % of the months earnings. This included items like $1 per pint sold and $1.50 per Collarbone Cure sold etc. The grand total for the GB’s = $11,004. A massive thanks goes to: Steamer Wharf | Altitude Brewing | Octane Coffee Roasters | Ivy & Lola's | Emerson's Brewery | Coopers Brewery | Thatcher's Cider | Bidvest | QT Laundry Services | Tuatara Brewing | Zeffer Cider | Terraces | Garage Project Brewery | European Bakery | Southern Hospitality | Liquor King | Alpine Milk | Farelli's | Ronnie Baker and again everyone who ate and drank at Atlas for these special 5 weeks.

The Atlas SOS Party (Season of Shred Party) is the grand finale to The GB's Club. The party moved up to Wynyard Freestyle Jump Park this year and included BBQs, beers, a DJ, local band Rules of Addiction, over 65 riders shredding in the Vertigo Huck-a-thon and the biggest raffle giveaway Queenstown has ever seen! This is the party people will talk about all year (especially because of the insane mosh pit!) After thousands of raffle tickets were sold and limited edition t-shirts worn by all, $10,560 was our grand SOS total. SUCCESS!

The raffle and SOS would not have been such a huge success without the help from these GB's: QMTBC | Ronnie Baker | Tom Tom Productions | Brandland | Bikeaholic | Queenstown Bike Taxis | Skyline Queenstown | Spa Hire Queenstown | Crankworx | Skyline Rotorua | Peterpans | Cardrona | Heliline | Queenstown Rafting | White Tiger | Outside Sports | Gibbston Valley | Fishing Charters | Carters | Spoke Magazine | Queenstown Health | Wide Open | Onsen | Mons Royale | AJ Hackett | Sram | Hells Gate | Southstar Shuttles | Novotel | Abracadabra Cafe.

Last year we were pretty blown away when we raised $12,144.50. However this year we almost doubled it – $21,564! Talk about hitting it out of the ball park! Atlas would again like to thank everyone that was involved – volunteers, sponsors, photographers, MC, drinkers, eaters, huckers – we definitely could not have done any of it without you!

Now bring on summer shredding!

End of Summer Party 2015 - April 26th!

Folks enjoying last year's party
It's sad to say goodbye to the summer season... in our books though, that's a good reason for a knees up. Our end of summer party will be on the April 26th. Not the last day of the gondola this year, but we bought it forward to coincide with the long weekend. Before the Atlas party kicks off the Wynyard World Champs downhill race, the last in the Queenstown series, is taking place. People normally wear their country colours to this race so feel free to do the same at Atlas on the night - to keep the global theme going!

The party starts at 5pm with the prize raffle from 8pm and we'll be expanding into neighbouring Farelli's Trattoria so that there's plenty of room for everyone to come down and enjoy themselves. The more the merrier! And, as usual, we will be holding a mega raffle to raise some coin for the good folks at QMTBC. Many local businesses have generously donated to the raffle, the prizes so far include:

Also many thanks to Southern Hospitality for helping out with the additional glassware!

Raffle tickets are now sale
at Atlas: 2 for $5, 5 for $10, 12 for $20.

Check out the snaps of last year's event below by Callum Wood to get you in the mood!

Season of Shred 2014

Last Sunday went off with a bang at Atlas a great crowd gathered to celebrate the start of the mountain bike season at the Season of Shred party. The aim of the party was to raise some money for QMTBC's Long Live the Loop campaign which will see improves made to the Fernhill loop track.

This year saw the addition of a jump competition at the start of the evening, to kick off proceedings. A few local riders hucked themselves off a ramp set up on the wharf-side and into the lake, all competing for the best trick prize.

The comp saw Nick Dethridge winning the DHaRCO gear for best trick. Biggest huck went to Sean McCoul. Bob Latchem won the Women's Best Trick accolade and Meagan Mee Wilken attempted a rad 360 so also deserves a shout out. Emmerson Wilken and Conor Macfarlane both landed double backies, and Jarrah Healy also put in a huge buck. And finally, to the delight of the crowd, Jono Head did a run in his undies!

The evening then commenced in earnest with the beer flowing (big ups to our friends at Coopers for donating some Special Reserve beer!) and with delicious food specials available from our neighbours at Farelli's Trattoria, who allowed us to expand into their premises for the evening.

The raffle kicked off with a load of wicked prizes to giveaway. Heartfelt thanks to all the business who contributed to the raffle with such generosity, we were blown away. Top prizes were a $1000 voucher from H & J’s Outdoor World, won by Ryan Roach, and two full day trips with Queenstown Bike Taxis valued at $600 each won by Will Kemp and Ryan Roach (again - lucky Ryan!).

DJ Justin then continued to spin the tunes into the night. It was another epic fundraiser which saw us raise a total of $5360 for QMTBC! We are so stoked to have raised this much money and we know it will be put to great use.

Thanks again to all the businesses that contributed to the event and to the raffle. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with this event - Indri, Jo, Samantha, Amy and Rosie on ticket and T-shirt sales; Nikki, Helen and Robin on crowd control. Thanks to Emmerson and Meagan for building the awesome ramp; Jimmy for the bike lifting; Fraser for his ever solid MC skills and Callum Wood for the fantastic pictures of the event. Thanks to Steamer Wharf and Real Journeys for letting us use the wharf for the trick comp, thanks to the Atlas and Farelli's staff and last but not least, thanks to everyone who came out and supported the event!

Season of Shred 2014 - Sunday 16th Nov 2014

Season of Shred is back for 2014! We are super excited to announce that our party to celebrate the start of the MTB season will be held on Sunday 16th Nov and it's going to be a great night!

We'll be kicking off the proceedings this year with a trick competition in front of Atlas. You'll be able to watch some QT biking talent huck themselves of a ramp and into Lake Wakatipu, competing for the best trick prize.

There'll also be Atlas food and drink specials, a rad DJ, bike videos playing on the bid screen and, of course, an epic raffle. Our star prizes this year come from Queenstown Bike Taxis who have donated two full days of bike taxi hire and H&J Outdoor World who have donated $1,000 worth of bike gear. We've had raffle prizes galore donated by loads of other fabulous QT businesses who are supporting the event and will be posting the full prize list soon.

The money raised from this year's SOS will be donated to QMTBC for their Long Live the Loop campaign. Roll on the 16th Nov!

Atlas helping Kumar to go Kiwi!

Best skills: Raj Kumar
Meet Raj Kumar. He's twenty years old and he's the reigning Nepalese downhill champion. He started biking at age 7 on borrowed bikes until he won his first bike in a competition!

Local Queenstown bikers Amy Freedman-Davies and Jarrah Healy met Raj late last year as they journeyed through Nepal searching for MTB trails.

Both Amy and Jarrah were blown away by his skills (the best all round mountain bike skills they'd ever seen!!) and his passion for biking. Inspired by Raj's enthusiasm they decided to begin a fund raising effort to bring the young rider to Queenstown.

Jarrah and Amy want to raise $5,000 to bring Raj to NZ so that his riding can be further enhanced by all things Queenstown! He'll have the opportunity to compete in local competitions, take part in the Queenstown Bike Festival and learn to build and maintain bike trails.

Here at Atlas we've been greatly impressed by Amy and Jarrah's fundraising efforts which truly are testament to the camaraderie of the mountain bike scene. And, we are really excited to be one of the local businesses sponsoring Kumar Goes Kiwi!

If you would like to help too you can make donation here:

https://www.givealittle.co.nz/cause/kumargoeskiwi

Big or small we can guarantee that any donation will be very gratefully received by Amy and Jarrah.

Atlas will also be hosting the Kumar Goes Kiwi arrival party once Raj arrives in town. They'll be prizes and fun things going on so we'll keep you posted...

'til next time!
