Queenstown's only hand pump is at Atlas

We are proud, at Atlas, to have Queenstown's only hand pump! If you prefer your beer poured in a more traditional manner, and you happen to like IPA then you are just in luck. We have the Tuatara IPA on the lines at the moment and it's a winner.

The nose is herbal and floral along with some hints of nutty malt. Upfront, the taste is perhaps slightly more malty than you might expect from an IPA but this is balanced though by plenty of herbaceous notes and "cor-blimey" English hops, that impart a lengthy bitter finish.

Tuatara suggest pork pies as a food match; a very English snack to match this very English-style IPA. Alas, not something we have on the menu at Atlas but you could pair it with our delicious pork belly main instead, the crispness of the IPA will match the delicious creaminess of the pork belly a treat.

Summer means cider: Thatcher's Gold at Atlas

Thatchers Gold

During last Winter our General Manager, Amy, headed to the Northern Hemisphere for some summer sunshine. Whilst roaming around in the West of England she had the rather enviable task of sampling many of the fine ciders that Somerset had to offer.

Inspired by Amy's cider tour of the Westcountry we now have Thatcher's Gold on the lines for the summer. If you haven't had the chance to try it yet it's more of a medium cider - as opposed to the delicious and dry Zeffer, which we still have on the lines. The Thatcher's gold has a smooth, appley flavour and a bright sparkle to the mouth feel.

Traditional food matches for cider are often pork-based. Pork belly goes particularly well with cider and coincidentally we have a pork belly main and also a pork belly tapas on the Atlas evening menu

Our new pork belly main

Over the Christmas holidays we said good-bye to our homemade beef sausage main course and added an immense new item to our dinner menu. We've fashioned our famous Atlas pork belly tapas into an inspired new main meal.

The dish comprises a slice of succulent and crispy pork belly, Atlas kumura mash and a drizzle of honey and ginger sauce. Yummo. As far as a beer pairing, we reckon a beer with a nice crisp finish will complement this dish nicely. Try a pint of Emerson's IPA or Tuatara IPA as an accompaniment. And for the cider drinkers lovers among you pork belly is a particularly good food match. Enjoy!
