What's Welcome Rock Trails, you ask? Well, it's only an awesome single track cross country mountain bike/hiking trail, hand built on one of NZ’s longest historic water races! And, it's right on our doorstep in Kingston.
A little more about Welcome Rock Trails: it's run by Tom O'Brien and his wife Katie who are fourth generation farmers on Blackmore Station and the family have been farming there since 1911. Welcome Rock is named after the prominent rock that sits above the homestead on the skyline. Early settlers named rock as it was a useful landmark and was as a meeting point and for trading.
The idea of the trail system, that followed the stations old gold miners' water races, was conceived in 2012 - and now it's open and ready for your enjoyment! It's suitable for folks with previous off road experience and is a grade three trail.
