Our talented chef has been working hard on our Winter Menu 2018. The trial period is over and the feedback we received is just mind-blowing.
Start your day right with a freakishly delicious chicken burger, also available at lunch time! For all the veggies out there, give the beetroot bubble and squeak with grilled haloumi, poached eggs and hollandaise a try.

Add a Barista made coffee and you are good to go. To make you the happy bunny that we want you to be we expanded our lactose milk options to soy, almond or coconut.

We are proud of our steak but variety is the key. What says winter more than beef stew with smoked mash and toasted ciabatta!? Or maybe your last trip to Asia is still on your mind? Come and get lost in your memories while enjoying a shredded duck open sandwich with pickled cucumber, spring onion and hoisin! If you have been  feeling like something light and refreshing then try our delightful grilled haloumi and beetroot salad with toasted walnuts and pomegranate dressing

How good is it when items are on both our lunch and dinner menu? No need to worry about time.

If this doesn’t make your mouth water maybe this tasty addition to our dinner menu will – twice cooked pork belly with ginger glaze on smoked mash with apple sauce.

All you need to warm yourself up after a good day shredding up the mountain is a little snack. We provide Japanese fried chicken, salt and pepper squid or Atlas style Poutine all day, along with an extended tapas menu at dinner time.

All winter we are doing a varying Sunday Roast every week.

Could you eat three Atlas steak and fries meals?

Three steaks champ: Antuoni pictured with Atlas' Amy
Could you eat three Atlas Steak and Fries meals? Turns out Adriano Antuoni can!

Holidaying in New Zealand, Antuoni decided to drop into Atlas on the recommendation of his friend Gigi. He ordered one rare steak & fries, decided that another would be a good idea and then proceeded to order a third. Eating every last bit on each plate, he certainly a new record at Atlas!

Hailing from Cannalonga, a little village in the heard of the Cilento National Park in Italy; Adriano told us when he heard how nice Lake Wakatipu and its surrounds were were he had to visit.

Adriano said of his trip, "I enjoyed my days in Queenstown... and the steaks obviously! And I might just be back to start an Italian business in town!".

No doubt if Antuoni comes back to set up an Italian business in QT, he'll be popping into Atlas for a steak or two... or three!

Red, red wine: Upside Down Hawke's Bay Merlot

For you vino drinkers here's some more info on our red wine selection, today it's our Hawke's Bay tipple, Upside Down Merlot.

This medium-bodied merlot is vibrant red in colour and has a fruity nose with suggestions of raspberries and plums upfront with some underlying cherries.

The palate is and smooth with subtle tannins and some oak that adds a hint of spice to the finish. It's really easy drinking and like many Merlots, that don't have the strong tannin element of other wine varieties, it's easily matched with a lot of different food.

You can drink Merlot well with tomato-based dishes and it's responds really well to the "umami" flavours that are found in food such as roast chicken and mushrooms. Heavier styles of Merlot can be served with things like steak or roast lamb.

We think our medium-bodied merlot is a great match with our:

Chicken slow cooked in tomato and olive sauce served with mash potatoes | 18.50

or our

Calzone with beef, bacon, sausage, cheese and onion jam served with smoked tomato chutney and side salad | $18.50

Enjoy!

Tuatara Hefe at Atlas

Cloudy
We've currently got the Tuatara Hefe on the lines at AtlasIf you are a pilsner fan you might find another refreshing option for the Summer months is a Hefeweizen or Hefe.

A hefe is a wheat beer or weissbier. Most beers are barley based but wheat beers are made with wheat only in the mash or a combination of wheat with some barley. A hefe is cloudy in appearance and has distinctive banana and clove flavours. Both these characteristics can be attributed to the yeast used (Hefe, incidentally, is German for yeast.) in the case of the Tuatara Hefe is Weinstephan yeast.

Wheat beers are left unfiltered so that the yeast used in fermentation is still present in the beer. If you are drinking bottled Hefe you can gently roll the bottle in your hands to loosen any settled yeast and further enhance the flavours. It'll still taste great on tap though. The Tuatara Hefe is then hopped with Wakatu hops to balance out the sweet banana, clove and vanilla flavours.

As a hefe is a weissbier, bacon and eggs and is a great food match. It'll also go down a treat with fish dishes. Try it with the Atlas whole baked sole with miso glaze, fries and side salad. Or maybe just a nice bowl of fries, whilst sat outside checking out the view.

Tuatara Hefe | 5% | $9 per pint

Please enjoy responsibly.
